About Me

Our Policy Plan

As a result of Brazil's public health system and its effects on indigenous people, we have come up with a policy to create an educational program that will benefit both the doctors working in the clinics for indigenous people as well as the patients. Through conducting a social impact assessment we have come up with a plan that could be implemented by Brazil's government.

Our policy, The Indigenous Enculturation Program for Medical Practitioners main goal is to make doctors better equipped to care for indigenous people in their designated region. The policy would provide awareness and help the medical practitioners understand the cultures they will be working with so they can effectively treat their patients. This would be accomplished by educating them on Brazil's indigenous culture, traditions, and health concerns. There would a course that medical practitioners must take in order to work at clinics that provide medical attention to indigenous communities. This course will be funded by the Brazilian government and the program's courses will be taught in the specific regions where the clinics are so that the practitioners gain familiarity with the environment before they begin working there. The course will be taught by anthropologist and doctors, specifically, ones that have worked with Brazil's indigenous populations.

The program will have three sections, each covered on a different day so the program spans over a three day period. The first, the introduction, second the causes, and lastly methods. The course will cover the background and history of Brazil's indigenous populations as well as provide information on their health concerns and methods for treatment. It will be free for the practitioners and be required before entering the region they are going to be working in.

This policy would help educate medical professionals on the different health problems of indigenous populations so that they can apply that knowledge when they are working in the clinics and interacting with indigenous people on a daily basis. This policy would be successful because it enculturates professionals before they enter a new region so that they are able to work as effectively as possible and help as many patients as they can. It will help them better understand causes for illnesses so that they can provide the right treatments and medicine to their patients and can do so with  keeping their patient's culture and traditions in mind. Overall, this policy would be beneficial to the clinics, the patients, and the medical professionals to help better Brazil's public health awareness.
